Stayed at the Ibis Euston. Had lunch at a restaurant/cafe by Euston called Puccino's. The photo sums up the place.
Then went to the Tower of London. Then to the Cittie of York pub on High Holborn. We tried also the Mitre, just down a little alley between Ely Place and Hatton Gardens, but its only open Monday to Friday.Looks good. We then got a taxi to Soho and had Italian food in Amalfi restaurant and some beers at the Dog and Duck, just round the corner on Frith Street.
They were great.
Girls Aloud looked great and Jay-z was a showman, although not my taste.
Catering at this new stadium is rubbish. No bitter near where we're sitting and nothing veggie to eat.
Nearly at London. Train a bit late because there was "no train manager" and they had to find someone last minute. Surely, the train company always knew they were putting this train on? For some reason this also meant the buffet has no change.
Did my usual scan of Bluetooth devices in the carriage to see if there are any interesting names. A dull lot today with the most exciting being "LilCoolz".
John Prescott at St. Pancras station. He didn't look happy.
After landing back at Stansted, we went to London rather than home. We'd booked in at the Waldorf, using up a load of Hilton HHonors points to get a free night.
After a drink in the bar whilst we waited for our room, we went out for a wander around Covent Garden and through Theatreland. We had some pre-dinner drinks in the strangely-named Green Man & French Horn pub. What a find this was: packed with people watching England beat France in the Rugby, good beers and just like a friendly boozer should be. We had to drag ourselves out for our restaurant booking.
We ate in Katana, a "pan-Asian" restaurant at the end of St. Martin's Lane. The food was great, and although the place wasn't large, it had a fun and lively atmosphere. The veggie red Thai curry was just gorgeous and the coconut rice brill. Other people that can write restaurant reviews much better than me have done so and the restaurant's website links to some of them.
On Sunday, after breakfast, we had a good walk combined with a visit to London Aquarium. It was my second time there and I have to say that I like the place. It's not enormous compared to some aquaria, but it has two large tanks that you can view from both floors and it's a place you can visit for an hour or two and feel like you've done the place justice without having to give up a whole day. It's not cheap at nearly £14 each, but a good attraction.
Whilst waiting to go into the aquarium, I snapped the views of the Dali statue-things and the London Eye.
Later, on a little bit of beach by the Thames, we saw this entertaining sand sculpture and "target" for throwing coins.
We wandered on from there, crossing the Thames by Tate Modern, taking the Millennium Bridge towards St. Paul's Cathedral, and from there to the Tower of London, where we sat and had a sandwich. From there, we followed the path around the Tower to St. Katherine Dock and had a drink at the Dickens Inn pub before catching a taxi back to the hotel.
