We woke up to thunderstorms this morning and ended up getting up just before 6am. The rain stopped by the time we packed the tent up and we got everything loaded in the car by about 7:40 but the route out of the car park was already a car park itself by that time. We spotted a sneaky gap in the fence and managed to get out pretty quickly. Breakfast and flushing toilets cv Michael Wood services on the M5 were very welcome. Just dropped Graham off and having a cup of tea before the last few miles home.
I'm sitting here listening to Glasvegas, thinking that they drone a bit, so I thought that I'd list some of the t-shirt slogans that I've spotted:
* I'm a Cunt - worn by a fat slobby bloke;
* Hang out with your wang out;
* Nobody knows I'm a lesbian.
Bon Iver were Ok, their songs tended to be long build-ups and I liked the 2 drum kit set-up. Graham thought they were a bit miserable.
This afternoon we've seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who I liked. They had an eyeball thing as part of their set and a massive eyeball beach ball that the crowd passed around. It landed on top of us at one point and Julie's thumb went right through it!
Julie and I then went down to the John Peel stage to see Ladyhawke, who were bloody brilliant. I bought a limited edition John Peel Shelter t-shirt whilst I was there.
Now back at the Other Stage, getting food and beer (falafel for me, always tasty).
The Prodigy later, with Bon Iver (don't know their work at all) and Glasvegas in between.
I've had:
* Caribbean sweet potato & chickpea curry with rice & peas - very good;
* Thai veg curry with jasmine rice and spring rolls (twice) - so good had it twice;
* Veggie cooked breakfast - just a great way to start the day;
* Veggie burger in a bap. The rubbish type of burger. A bit disappointing;
* Black bean and cheese burrito - excellent;
* Veg chow mein with spring roll - ok but a little bland and greasy;
* Portion of chips - real comfort food.
I still want to get in a pizza and maybe a pie. Going to have to cycle hard for the coming week!
The Pyramid stage is now fuller for Status Quo than at the end of Bruce Springsteen last night, and people seem to be enjoying them more. Even I know most of the songs they're playing! How funny.
I can't quite believe this, but we're just about to watch that aging bunch of rockers.
I tried posting yesterday but the signal was so variable that I didn't manage to post anything. It was at least 25¤C all day. We had a wander around the green fields, Trash City and saw some circus acts. We heard a bit of Rolf Harris, who drew a massive, path blocking crowd. I can only assume it was a status thing because I thought he was rubbish.
We had some beer by the Other Stage and caught some of Metric, who we really liked a lot.
After that it was back to the Pyramid. We saw Spinal Tap then Dizzee Rascal, who completely rocked the place up.
Crosby, Stills and Nash we better than I expected and quite good. Kasabian were brilliant. Despite my feelings that Bruce Springsteen would be rubbish be hung around and watched because we had caught up with the Wests and their friends the Pegs. As it turned out he was exactly as I thought, incredibly dull, monotonous and only played about 2 of his famous sing-along songs in about 2.5 hours. We left in the end because he was so boring and went to get food instead.
Lily was great. Always quite liked her music but she was really entertaining live. We saw about half of The Specials, who were Ok. Having a beer by the Acoustic stage on way to see the Ting Tings.
After the rain yesterday, the sun came out and it was fab hot, about 25. There was quite a lot of rain over night and this morning and there was plenty of mud around this morning. We saw The Whip play the Other Stage, will be buying their album. We got the end of The Rumble Strips in the John Peel stage. Next up was Fucked Up. Can't say their music did it for me but the crowd surfing lead singer was very entertaining.
The sun came back out at about 1pm or so and its been scorching again. Saw some of N.E.R.D and Fleet Foxes. Waiting for Lily Allen, who's on in about 20 minutes.
